Results from round 28 of the Motsepe Foundation Championship confirmed the relegation of both Black Leopards and TTM FC to the ABC Motsepe League and amateur football next season.
BLACK LEOPARDS
Going into the third last round, Black Leopards were rock bottom of the MFC, 5 points behind 14th placed Platinum City Rovers who were their opponent in Round 28. Rovers won 2 - 0, resulting in Lidoda Duvha being relegated for the second time in three seasons after their 16th placed finish in the 2020/21 DSTV Premiership season and relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Leopards were established in 1983 by business people in Venda in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. In 1998, the club was taken over by the Thidiela family. Leopards were promoted to the Premier League at the end of the 2000/21 season after winning the NFD title. In 2007/08 Leopards finished 15th in the Premier League and entered the Promotional Playoffs where they lost 1 - 2 to Bay United in the semi-finals and were relegated to the NFD. In 2010/11 Leopards finished runner/up to Jomo Cosmos in the Inland Stream of the NFD. Leopards beat Vasco Da Gama 4 - 2 in the semi-finals of the Promotional Playoffs, before seeing off the challenge of Bay United 2 - 0 in the final to once again earn promotion to the Premier League. Just two seasons later, Leopards again finished 16th in the Premier League and were back in the NFD where they stayed until the 2017/18 season when once again the Limpopo side won the Promotional Playoffs over Jomo Cosmos and Platinum Satrs after finishing second in the NFD. Another three seasons were then enjoyed in South Africa's top flight before Leopards 16th place finish in 2021 and now this further fall from grace two years later.
TTM FC
Going into the third last round of the MFC season, TTM FC lay in 15th position, 4 points behind 14th placed Platinum City Rovers, with a match against 4th placed Hungry Lions to face in Bloemfontein. Lions won 2 - 1 to relegate the former Limpopo side to the amateur ranks.
TTM FC were established in 1986 and based at the Thohoyandou Stadium. They won Group B of the Vodacom Playoffs at the end of the 2011/12 season to earn their place in the NFD. After eight seasons in the First Division, TTM FC bought the Premier League status of Bidvest Wits and played in the Premier League in the 2020/21 season finshing in a creditable 12th position. The following season, TTM FC sold their Premier League status to Marumo Gallants and participated in the GladAfrica Championship where the finished just above the relegation zone in 13th. The 2022/23 league season saw TTM FC play their matches in the first half of the campaign in Thohoyandou, but relocated to the Dr Petros Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein in 2023. TTM FC droppped into the relegation zone of the MFC on 4 February 2023 after a 1 - 2 against Platinum City Rovers and they never recover, with the final blow coming on Saturday 29 April and their 1 - 2 loss at home to Hungry Lions, whish sealed their 1st Division fate.
