BITTER/SWEET SEASON END FOR LIMPOPO PROVINCE

The conclusion of the PSL season was a bitter/sweet one for the Limpopo Province, with celebration of promotion to the DSTV premiership for Polokwane City and relegation to the Moptsepe Foundation Championship for Marumo Gallants.

Polokwane City came from behind to clinch the Motsepe Foundation Championship and return to the Premier League just three season's after their relegation in 2020. Despite spending 15 weeks at the top of the NFD, the Limpopo side were third on the log going into the final round of matches. With both Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars playing to draws in the final fixtures and Polowane City beating Pretoria Callies 4 - 0 it was back to the big time for Rise and Shine.

Meanwhile, in the DSTV Premiership, it was heartbreak for a Marumo Gallants side who hade made the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2023. With the Limpopo team picking up just one win in their opening 11 matches, it was always going to be struggle. The arrival of Coach Dylan Kerr was a huge boost for the club, despite never receiving his work permit and having to direct proceedings from the stands. Halfway through the season, Gallants were bottom of the log and they stayed there for 11 weeks before a string of good results saw them up to 13th in week 26.

However, it was not to be and 2 draws and 2 losses in their final 4 outings saw the 2022 Nedbank Cup finalists relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
