NFD WRAP - WEEK 23

CT ALL STARS 0 MBOMBELA UNITED FC 0

Both All Stars and Mbombela missed a chance to ease their relegation worries when they played to a goalless draw on Friday. The result leaves the Cape side 6 points above the drop zone, while the visitors are slightly more comfortable as they are 9 points clear of any danger.

UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA 0 ROYAL EAGLES 1

A 20th goal of the season for Sedwyn George gave his side Royal Eagles their 10th victory of the season on Saturday, got Eagles back to winning ways after their shock defeat to Magesi FC last time out, and kept the KZN side in touch with the 3 teams above them that are in the Championship positions. Tuks lost for the 4th time in a row and down in 10th on the log, surely have no chance of challenging for honours this season.

BLACK LEOPARDS 1 REAL KINGS FC 2

Real Kings caused the shock of the weekend when they handed 2nd placed Lidoda Duvha only their third home defeat of the season. The win for the KZN side puts them into the top half of the table for 4th time this season, but more importantly, might have secured their NFD status for another year as they are 12 points above the drop zone. Despite the loss, Leopards are still second on the log. They are however now 9 points behind logleaders thanda and only two ahead of the chasing pack.

FC CAPE TOWN 2 MILANO UNITED FC 3

Milano gave themself some breathing space in the relegation battle when they won the Cape derby on Saturday. The result though still means that Milano are 4th on the log with FC Cape Town one place and 1 point better off. The pressure is still very much on both sides in the remaining seven rounds.

STELLENBOSCH FC 2 WITBANK SPURS 1

Homeside Stellenbosch FC improved their position on the log with a good win over Spurs on Saturday. While the Cape side stay 3rd, they are now just two points behind second placed Leopards who lost at home this week. Spurs drop to 7th and are now 5 points outside the battle for a place in the post season.

MTHATHA BUCKS 1 SANTOS FC 0

Mthatha Bucks kept their Playoff chances alive when they beat bottom side Santos at home on Saturday. One goal was all it took to keep the home side in 5th on the log, and still only one point away from a place in the post season. For Santos the situation becomes more desperate with every match. No wins on the road this season, the least amount of goals scored, a 5th week at the bottom of the log and a 12th week in the relegation zone. Santos are 5 points behind Milano in 14th.

JOMO COSMOS 1 THANDA ROYAL ZULU 1

Cosmos dropped into the bottom half of the table for the first time since week four after their draw with NFD leaders Thanda on Sunday. The point for the visitors increased their lead over Leopards to 9 and kept the KZN side at the top of the table for a 20th week. Cosmos still have a match in hand – against CT All Stars – and will have to get back to winning ways to have any chance of making the post season.

AMAZULU FC 3 MAGESI FC 0

Usuthu avenged the 3 – 2 loss in Limpopo earlier in the season when they beat Magesi convincingly on Sunday. After the Limpopo sides impressive performance and shock result over Royal Eagles before the Cup break, lots was expected from the relegation haunted side, but Amazulu were having none of it. Usuthu move up to 6th and still in with a challenge for the post season, while Magesi stay in the relegation zone for a 18 week.
