NFD WRAP - WEEK 18

WITBANK SPURS v CT ALL STARS

All stars went three for three in 2017 when they beat Spurs in Witbank on Saturday. The Cape side continue their push away from the relegation zone and have climbed from 14th to 1th since the resumption of the league. Spurs are going in the opposite direction and without a win this year have dropped from 3rd to 7th.

STELLENBOSCH FC vs FC CAPE TOWN

Stellenbosch returned to winning ways for the first time since the end of October with their win over FC CT in one of two Cape derbies. The win sends Stellenbosch up four places to 4th and two points of a place in the Playoffs. FC CT suffered their first defeat of 2017 and slip to 13th, but still 7 points clear of the relegation zone.

ROYAL EAGLES v MTHATHA BUCKS

A come from behind victory at home by Eagles over fellow Playoff contenders Mthatha Bucks was highlighted by another hattrick by the NFD’s leading goal poacher Sedwyn George who now has 17 goals to his credit. Eagles remain 3rd on the log and right in the mix for a place in the post season. After suffering their first defeat of 2017, Bucks slip to the bottom half of the table for the first time this season.

MBOMBELA UNITED FC v BLACK LEOPARDS

Leopards inflicted the first home defeat of the season on Mbombela United to remain second on the log and now 10 points behind long time logleaders Thanda Royal Zulu who dropped points in Round 18. Leopards have a perfect 3 for 3 win ratio in 2017. Mbombela slip back one position to 10th.

SANTOS FC v MILANO UNITED FC

 Santos won for the first time since Round one when they beat Milano in the second of the Cape derbies on Sunday. The win takes Santos off the bottom of the log although they do stay in the relegation zone for a 7th straight week. Milano have lost all three matches in 2017 so far and have dropped to 14th position on the log, 3 points ahead of Santos.              

THANDA ROYAL ZULU v AMAZULU

Thanda dropped points for the first time at home this season in the KZN derby on Sunday, but remain unbeaten through 18 weeks of this season and head the table for a 15th week in a row. Usuthu have yet to register a win in 2017 with two draws and a loss and currently occupy 8th spot on the log.

MAGESI FC v UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA

Limpopo side and NFD rookies Magesi slipped back to the foot of the NFD standings after suffering a home loss to Tuks on Sunday. Magesi have only registered two wins all season and have been at the bottom of the log for 11 weeks and in the relegation zone for 13 weeks. Tuks climb to 6th with the win and are unbeaten in 2017.        

REAL KINGS v JOMO COSMOS

Home side Real Kings gave themselves a huge boost when they beat Cosmos to register their first win of 2017 and climb to 12th on the log, 7 points clear of the drop zone. Cosmos suffered their first loss of the year and dropped one spot to 5th, but are only three points from a place in the Playoffs.
