NFD 2018/19 - WEEK 09 PREVIEW

STELLENBOSCH FC vs TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIVHANDILA

Table topping Stellenbosch FC will play their second top of the table clash in two weeks when they take on title contenders TTM FC on Friday at Idas Valley. The Cape side have put together an unbeaten run of 5 matches with 4 wins and a draw and became the 7th team in the eight weeks of the season to get to the top of the log. TTM FC beat Mbombela last week to close the gap to the top of the log to just 1 point. Last season TTM FC won both at home and in the Cape.

REAL KINGS vs RICHARDS BAY FC

Two wins in a row and still so much to do for Real Kings, who despite their recent success remain in the relegation zone. The KZN derby gives Kings another opportunity to escape the bottom part of the log for the first time in 7 weeks. Kings beat Richards Bay 1 – 0 at home last year. The side from the North Coast have won only once in their last six outings and have dropped into the bottom half of the table.

WITBANK SPURS vs TS SPORTING

An Mpumalanga derby to relish on Saturday, pitching resurgent Spurs up against NFD rookies and former logleaders TS Sporting in Witbank. Spurs walloped Cape Umoya 4 – 1 in the Boland last weekend while TS Sporting went down at home to Stellenbosch FC as they tasted defeat for the first time at home this season conceding their first goals of the season at home too. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

UTHONGATHI FC vs AJAX CAPE TOWN

Both Uthongathi and Ajax drew in Round 8 and will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Saturday. The KZN side are 7th on the log but only two points behind their visitors with a superior goal difference. Ajax themselves are only two points behind logleaders Stellenbosch FC, with plenty to be gained for a win in this encounter. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

MBOMBELA UNITED FC vs JOMO COSMOS

Both Mbombela and Cosmos dropped points in Round eight and will hope to rectify that this weekend. The Mpumalanga side have never lost nor even conceded a goal against Cosmos in home matches and a repeat result could see the home side closer to the top of the table come Saturday evening. Adding to the interest in this match is the fact that Mbombela are unbeaten at home this season, while Cosmos have yet to lose on the road.

UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA vs UBUNTU CT FC

Tuks will have home ground advantage in a match that was meant to take place in the Cape. Ubuntu are playing their 8th match out of 9 away from home. Incredible. The Cape side also have a new coach with well known Serbian Vladislav Heric taking over the reigns from Casey Prince. Ubuntu have been in the relegation zone the entire season long and one waits to see when they will finally play matches at home and what influence the new coach will have. Tuks have suffered only one loss all season and although lying 6th on the log, are only three points away from the top of the table.

CAPE UMOYA UNITED vs ROYAL EAGLES

Cape Umoya were hammered 4 – 1 at their new home of Boland Stadium last weekend by visiting Spurs and have dropped to 12th on the log. Royal Eagles drew against TS Galaxy in Chatsworth and are level on points with their Cape hosts, but ahead of the Cape side courtesy of goal difference. Important points for both sides in tis clash. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

TS GALAXY vs MACCABI FC

Both NFD newcomers TS Galaxy and Maccabi FC are in the bottom half of the table with Dan Malesela’s side in 13th and Maccabi in 10th. TS Galaxy drew away at Royal Eagles last weekend, while the Jhb outfit were beaten by Real Kings in a six goal thriller at the Dobsonville Stadium. Maccabi FC have yet to win on the road this season, with the home side having lost just once in five outings at the Kameelrivier Stadium. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.
