NFD 2018/19 - WEEK 08 PREVIEW

TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIVHANDILA v MBOMBELA UNITED FC

Coach Chokoe will look to get back to winning ways after TTM FC lost their unbeaten record in the NFD last time put against Tuks. Such is the packed nature of the log at the moment that the loss saw TTM drop from 1st to 7th. Mbombela’s win over Richards Bay in Round 7 took the Mpumalanga side above TTM FC on goal difference.  Both teams won at home last season.

TS SPORTING v STELLENBOSCH FC

A top of the table clash in Mpumalanga on Saturday is bound to have the fans packing into the Kabokweni Stadium. TS Sporting have won 3 out of 3 matches at home this season including a victory against Ajax Cape Town and are unbeaten since Round 2. Stellenbosch FC are unbeaten in their last four outings having climbed from 12th to 2nd in four weeks. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

AJAX CAPE TOWN v UBUNTU CT FC

A Cape derby at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday will feature a top vs bottom clash. Ajax Cape Town are third on the log and just one point behind logleaders TS Sporting. It’s completely different picture for Ubuntu CT FC who have been in the relegation zone since the beginning of the season. To their defence though, the match in Saturday will be their 7th away match of the season out of 8 rounds played. Certainly not an ideal situation. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.   

ROYAL EAGLES v TS GALAXY

Two sides looking to bounce back to winning ways and the lower reaches of the NFD log meet in Chatsworth on Saturday. Eagles lost away against Kings in Round 7, while TS Galaxy went down to Ajax CT at home. The loss for Eagles came at a time when the club had posted an unbeaten run of four matches. TS Galaxy have only tasted victory once this season, and that was three weeks ago against Spurs in an Mpumalanga derby. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

RICHARDS BAY FC v UTHONGATHI FC

Another derby and his time in KZN will feature two sides that lost in the previous round. Richards Bay and Uthongathi FC are both in mid table, separated by just one point. Richards Bay FC are unbeaten are unbeaten at home this season and beat Ajax CT there 3 weeks ago. Their guests have lost their last two matches and have not won on the road this campaign. Last season these two teams played to a 1 – 1 draw in Richards Bay.

CAPE UMOYA UNITED v WITBANK SPURS

Another two teams who tasted defeat last time out, meet at a first ever NFD encounter at the Boland rugby Stadium on Sunday. The Cape side lost to Cosmos last time out, while Spurs lost at home to Stellenbosch FC. Both sides are in the bottom half of the table with Cape Umoya in 11th and Spurs 3rd from bottom where they have been for the past three weeks. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

JOMO COSMOS v UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA

A Gauteng derby will pitch Cosmos and Tuks up against each other on Sunday. Cosmos come into the match after having beaten Cape Umoya and Tuks ended the unbeaten run of TTM FC last time out to get back to winning ways after a winless two match spell. Cosmos are unbeaten at home since their first round loss to Ajax CT, while Tuks have been impressive on the road – winning both matches away from home this season. Last season Cosmos hammered Tuks 5 – 0.

MACCABI FC v REAL KINGS

Maccabi FC will want to build on their 3 – 0 win over bottom side Ubuntu CT FC when they meet Real Kings on Sunday in Dobsonville. Kings have lost all three matches on the road so far this season, but did win for the first time in the new campaign over Royal Eagles in Round 7. Both sides are in the bottom half of the log with Maccabi in 10th and Kings in 15th place. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.
