NFD 2018/19 - WEEK 07 PREVIEW

MBOMBELA UNITED FC v RICHARDS BAY FC

Top of the table after Round 3, Mbombela haven’t won a match or scored a goal since then and have slipped to 9th on the log. On Saturday they face a Richards Bay side who are fresh off a victory against Ajax CT and no doubt full of confidence. The up side for the home team is that the KZN outfit have lost both away matches so far this season and have failed to score a goal on the road. Last season Richards Bay won this fixture 1 – 0.

UTHONGATHI FC v TS SPORTING

Uthongathi FC will look to bounce \back to winning ways after losing in a KZN derby last week against Royal Eagles. It might be easier said than done as visiting NFD rookies TS Sporting have put an unbeaten run of 5 matches together since their Round 1 loss to Maccabi. The Mpumalanga based side are 3rd on the log. Uthongathi would have noticed however that TS Sporting have yet to win away from home. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA v TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIVHANDILA

Both Tuks and TTM FC dropped points last week at home in goalless draws and will want to get back on track on Saturday. The Limpopo logleaders are the only unbeaten side in the NFD after six rounds, but have yet to win on the road this season having posted two draws in their away matches so far. Having said that – Tuks have yet to win at home. Last season TTM FC did a 2 - 1 season double over the side from the capital.

WITBANK SPURS v STELLENBOSCH FC

While Spurs have headed down the standings since their Round one win over Real Kings, Stellenbosch FC have headed the other way in recent weeks. The Witbank side have lost their last four matches in a row and placed their coach on special leave. Stellenbosch FC by comparison are unbeaten in their last three outings after suffering losses in Rounds 2 & 3. Both sides won at home last season.

REAL KINGS v ROYAL EAGLES

Back to back wins over Tuks and Uthongathi has seen Royal Eagles climb to 11th on the log with points. A 3rd win in a row over bottom side Real Kings and Eagles could be in the top half of the table by Sunday afternoon. It’s been a slow start for Kings, who are yet to win this season and have only 1 point. Kings have lost at home to Eagles on both occasions the sides have met in the Kings back yard with the home side failing to score in either of those matches.

JOMO COSMOS v CAPE UMOYA UNITED

Since their loss against Ajax CT in Round 1, Cosmos are unbeaten in the NFD are have leapt to 7th on the log, only 3 points off the top of the log. Their opponent Cape Umoya also experienced a slow start to the season, drawing their first three outings, but have won two of their last three matches to consolidate 10th place on the log. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

MACCABI FC v UBUNTU CT FC

Since their win over TS Sporting in Round 1, it has been a downward slide for the ABC Motsepe League, having drawn three and losing two of their last five matches. Ubuntu are in even worse strife and the Cape side are without a win all season long, with one point and have been in the relegation zone all season so far. An important match for both sides. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

TS GALAXY v AJAX CAPE TOWN

After registering their first win under new coach Dan Malesela last weekend, TS Galaxy will want to improve their log position even further at the expense of Ajax CT on Sunday. Certainly not beyond the bounds of possibility as the Cape side have won only one match on the road all season and that was in Round one against Cosmos with Ajax registering two losses and a draw in their other away matches. Two home wins keep Ajax in the top five on the log. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.
