NFD 2017/18 - WEEK 5 WRAP

STELLENBOSCH FC 1 CT ALL STARS 0

Stellenbosch FC not only retained their top spot on the NFD table, but also their unbeaten record in the Cape derby on Friday. Former logleaders All Stars lost for the second week in a row and have slipped down to 7th after failing to score for the first time this season. The only goal of the match was scored by Mabua who has 2 goals this season.

BLACK LEOPARDS 0 REAL KINGS 0

Leopards slipped a further place down the log, to 13th, after their goalless stalemate on Saturday. The draw leaves visiting Real Kings one of only 3 teams that are still unbeaten this season. However, with 4 draws out of five outings, the KZN side are already in danger of slipping out of contention for honours.

UTHONGATHI FC 1 MTHATHA BUCKS 2

Newly promoted Uthongathi suffered their first home defeat, while presenting unbeaten Mthatha Bucks their first win on the road this season. Mpho Erasmus has been a great signing and has delivered with 5 goals in the 5 outings so far. Another new Bucks signing, Mathosi, score the other goal for the Eastern Cape side. Vilane scored for the home side who have slipped to just outside the relegation zone with the defeat.

WITBANK SPURS 1 UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA 2

Spurs lost their unbeaten record after suffering defeat against Tuks on Saturday. After a draw in Round 1 and a 0-5 hammering by Cosmos in Rnd 2, Tuks have now won 2 – 1 in each of their last three matches and sit 2nd on the log, just 1 point behind Stellenbosch FC. Spurs won in Round 1, but are without a victory in four outings and currently positioned in midtable.

ROYAL EAGLES 1 SUPER EAGLES 1

The season continues to be a frustrating one for Royal Eagles who find themselves at the bottom of the log without a win so far. Although the KZN side have scored in every match this season, they are conceding more than they are scoring and despite replacing Alan Freese, the results are still not there. The visitors have picked up 5 points in their last 3 matches, but had to rely on an own goal from Mayebi to grab a share of the spoils on Saturday.

MBOMBELA UNITED FC 1 HIGHLANDS PARK 0

Mbombela won for the first time at home this season and registerd their first ever win over Highlands when they edged the visitors who have now lost three matches in a row. Back to back wins for the Mpumalanga side sees them climb from 11th to 3rd, while Highlands are stuck in the bottom half of the table after a promising start to the season. The Tembisa based side have appointed Owen da Gama as coach.

UBUNTU CT FC 1 JOMO COSMOS 1

Newly named Ubuntu CT FC have drawn 4 of their opening 5 matches, but are without a win so far this season and they drop into the relegation zone for the first time. The draw gave Cosmos their first away point of the campaign and leaves them in 5th place on the log. Ubuntu maintain their unbeaten home record against their visitors with 2 wins and 3 draws.

RICHARDS BAY FC 3 TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIHANDILA 1

NFD winners as Thanda Royal Zulu – Richards Bay FC finally registered their first win of the season as they hammered the former Milano in Richards Bay on Sunday to climb off the bottom of the log.
