NFD 2017/18 - WEEK 3 WRAP

UBUNTU CT FC 0 SUPER EAGLES FC 0

The newly named Cape side dropped points for the third time in a row as did their newly promoted opponent Super Eagles FC. Ubuntu have drawn 2 and lost one match so far this season, while the Free State side have only one point and drop to the bottom of the table.

RICHARDS BAY FC 0 MTHATHA BUCKS 0

Richards Bay FC look the ghost of the all-conquering Thanda side of last season. They have yet to win a match, have only scored 1 goal and sit in the relegation zone. Mthatha Bucks might be unbeaten and in the top three on the log, but the two draws out of 3 starts might be an early concern for the Eastern Cape side. The two sides have met five times with all five matches ending in stalemates.

TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIHANDILA 1 JOMO COSMOS 0

After losing both of their opening matches and finding themselves at the bottom of the log, newly named TTM FC shocked the visitors Cosmos to register their first win of the season. After the 5 – 0 demolition of Tuks in their previous match, most bets would have been on Cosmos repeating the dose on the Limpopo side. Cosmos have lost both of their away matches this season.

MBOMBELA UNITED FC 0 REAL KINGS FC 1

Last season Mbombela lost two matches at home in the entire campaign and suffered the 1st of those defeats in mid February 2017 in round 1. Come 2017/18 and the Mpumalanga side have lost their two opening home matches whole winning on the road. The win for visiting Real Kings was their first of the season, but with two draws, they are one of 6 teams still unbeaten.

UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA 2 HIGHLANDS PARK 1

Another match that shook the early form book. Tuks with a tremendous win over logleading Highlands after having beat walloped 5 – 0 by cosmos just a week earlier. The Tembisa side had won both of their opening matches, but crashed to defeat in Round 3. Despite the loss, Highlands are 2nd on the log.

ROYAL EAGLES 1 STELLENBOSCH FC 1

It’s been a slow start for Alan Freese and Royal Eagles as the KZN side have yet to pick up a victory this season. Stellenbosch are uneaten after the draw, with 1 win and 2 draws. Royal Eagles remain unbeaten at home against Stellenbosch (Vasco), having won 5 of the 7 matches played in Pietermaritzburg in the past.

WITBANK SPURS 2 CT ALL STARS 2

Spurs dropped points for the first time when they were held by the NFD’s new logleaders All Stars on Sunday. It’s been quite a turnaround for the Cape side from last season, after All Stars spent many weeks in the Relegation zone before ending the season with a flourish. Both sides are unbeaten after round 3.

UTHONGATHI FC 1 BLACK LEOPARDS 0

ABC Motsepe League Champions, Uthongathi picked up their first win as a professional unit when they shocked visiting Leopards on Sunday. 1 win and 2 draws has the KZN rookies up in 7th on the log and one of 6 side still to lose a match in 2017/18. Lidoda Duvha have won, drawn and lost this season and with four points are sitting in mid table.
