REAL KINGS v UTHONGATHI FC
A KZN derby to start the weekend involving two sides that both won in round 18 and meeting with an ABC Motsepe League finalist for the second week in a row for Real Kings.. Real Kings beat Super Eagles, while Uthongathi edged Cosmos to give new coach Sammy Troughton a dream start to his tenure in Tongaat. The home side have put together an unbeaten run of 5 matches and are 6 points behind Highlands Park with a chance to cut the gap in half with the logleaders only playing on Sunday. The challenge for the Cane Cutters is to see whether they can achieve consistency. Uthongathi beat Kings 2 – 0 in Round 13 with an Mnguni brace.
CT ALL STARS v UBUNTU CT FC
A Cape derby to relish on Saturday between improving All Stars and relegation haunted Ubuntu. All Stars are unbeaten in their last 4 matches and have lost only once in their last 7 outings. They are still in the bottom half of the table however, mainly due to the 4 draws in those 7 outings. Ubuntu had registered two impressive wins before running into logleaders Highlands Park last week and conceding 3 goals. All Stars beat Ubuntu 2 – 0 away in Round 13.
TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIHANDILA v UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA
Coming off an impressive away win over Spurs and a climb to 4th on the log, TTM FC are also unbeaten in their last four matches with 2 wins and two draws. They meet a Tuks side who are in a bit of a slump at the moment and without a win in 4 outings. Tuks are 1 position and 1 point below TTM on the log with the same goal difference. The Limpopo side beat Tuks 2 – 1 in Pretoria in Round 13 and will be hoping for a season double.
MTHATHA BUCKS v MBOMBELA UNITED FC
Despite showing character in their last two matches, Mthatha Bucks still can’t pick up that elusive win that could break the shackles of dropped points and release the Eastern Cape side from the relegation zone. They meet inconsistent Mbombela on Saturday at home in the hope of changing the clubs fortunes. Mbombela have only posted one win in their last 5 outings, but are 6th on the log, 4 points outside the Playoff positions. Mbombela beat Bucks 2-1 in Kanyamazane in Round 13.
SUPER EAGLES FC v STELLENBOSCH FC
Stellenbosch FC won for only the second time in 12 weeks last weekend and crept back into the top half of the table. The former logleaders abeat Super Eagles 1-0 in early December and will be hoping for a season double over the NFD rookies. Easier said than done perhaps with the NFD’s leading joint scorer Modibedi Mokoena the man to watch on Saturday. Eagles are 4 points clear of the relegation zone, but far from safe from the threat of relegation.
HIGHLANDS PARK v RICHARDS BAY FC
Coach Owen da Gama will be hoping that his Highlands side can continue their astonishing 14 match unbeaten run in league and cup on Sunday in Tembisa. The Lions of the North are 6 points clear of the chasing pack and favourites to return to the PSL. But – there are still 11 rounds of football to play and lots can happen. For example, how would a loss affect the rampant confidence of Highlands. Loss will be furthest from their mind however, as they know that Richards Bay are fighting for survival in 14th place on the log. Highlands beat the KZN side 3 – 0 in Round 13 and will hope to at least match that result at home.
JOMO COSMOS v WITBANK SPURS
They win at home and lose on the road, and yet Cosmos still hold on to a place in the Promotional Playoffs. Both Cosmos and Spurs suffered defeat in Round 18 with Cosmos slipping out of the top two for the first time in 6 weeks. Spurs dropped 3 places to 8th after a home loss to TTM FC last weekend. Cosmos are unbeaten in Vosloorus this season and if history repeats itself, will still be in the top 3 come Sunday afternoon. The teams played to a 2 – 2 draw in early December.
BLACK LEOPARDS v ROYAL EAGLES
Royal Eagles have scored 15 goals in their last 4 matches to be the NFD’s leading scorers. However they have also conceded 11 goals in those 4 outings and are the worst defensive side in the league. Leopards are having a torrid season. 3 coaches have done little to steer the Limpopo side into a title challenging position as Lidoda Duvha lie 10th on the log and are suffering from inconsistent form with only one win on their last 6 matches. The sides played to a 1-1 draw earlier this season.
