NFD 2017/18 - WEEK 12 PREVIEW

CT ALL STARS v UTHONGATHI FC

The weekend opens on Friday with All Stars hoping to get back to winning ways after successive 0 – 1 losses and a drop into the bottom half of the table. New coach Brandon Truter will have his first match in charge. Their opponent Uthongathi FC have not won in four outings and haven’t scored a goal in their last three matches, dropping them to 13th on the log. The KZN ABC Mostepe League Champions have also not won on the road this season so far. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

SUPER EAGLES v BLACK LEOPARDS

Both Eagles and Leopards posted wins under their respective new coaches last week and will be hoping to continue their return to good form. The two sides are still however in the bottom half of the table with Leopards in 10th and Eagles two places lower. The sides are separated by just 1 point. This will be the first meeting between the two sides.

TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIHANDILA v ROYAL EAGLES

TTM FC will have a good opportunity to make a comeback from the disastrous 0 – 3 pounding at the hands of Mbombela last week when they host struggling Royal Eagles on Saturday. Prior to last weeks’ loss, TTM FC had been on an unbeaten run of 5 matches. Eagles haven’t won in 4 outings, losing three of those and find themselves in the relegation zone for the 3rd time this season. The previously named Milano United FC have never lost to Eagles at home and have also never conceded a goal against the KZN side.

UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA v RICHARDS BAY FC

3rd from the top takes on 3rd from bottom in the NFD on Saturday. With only one loss in their last nine outings, Tuks are looking good, 3 points behind logleaders Highlands Park. The championship title chasers face a Richards Bay side has had a shaky start to the season, but have gone 5 matches unbeaten recently. And yes all those matches might have been draws, but the points were enough to see the KZN side escape from the relegation zone for the first time in 6 weeks. Tuks have posted only one win in four meetings with the former Thanda Royal Zulu.

HIGHLANDS PARK v WITBANK SPURS

Logleaders Highlands Park will look to extend their lead at the top of the standings and apply more pressure to the chasing pack on Saturday. The home side have won both home matches against the Mpumalanga outfit in the past. Spurs are themselves in pretty good form at the moment and although they are 7th on the log, they are unbeaten in their last 4 matches.

REAL KINGS v STELLENBOSCH FC

Real Kings had a chance to have a good look at Stellenbosch FC last week when the Cape played a home match at the King Zwelithini Stadium against Cosmos. Kings have won their last 3 matches, all without conceding a goal and are in their highest position in the log all season. Their visitors on the other hand have not posted a win in their last 5 matches, only scoring goals in one of the five. Last season both sides won 2 – 0 at home. While Sunday will be his 104th match in charge, Real Kings coach Simo Dladla will be given a momento before the match to celebrate his 100th match since taking over as coach of the KZN side. It was also his Birthday last Monday.

MTHATHA BUCKS v UBUNTU CT FC

Mthatha Bucks will have a great opportunity to get back to winning ways and into the top half of the table on Sunday when they host long time bottom side Ubuntu in Mthatha. Both previous matches between Bucks and the former FC Cape Town in Mthatha have ended in draws. The home side are sitting in 11th place on the log with only one win in their last five matches.  However the plight of Ubuntu is far worse. The Cape side have been in the relegation zone for the past 6 weeks with 5 of those at the bottom of the log. The Cape side have scored only 1 goal in their last 6 outings.

JOMO COSMOS v MBOMBELA UNITED FC

Cosmos / Mbombela should be an interesting encounter on Sunday, with both side posting wins at home in their only meetings to date. Added to that are their respective log positions. Mbombela are 2nd on the log, two places, but only 1 point ahead of their hosts. Cosmos are unbeaten at home this season and hoping to keep it that way, while their visitors have only suffered one loss on the road this season and that was a month ago.
