NFD 2017/18 - WEEK 09 WRAP

UBUNTU CT FC 1 RICHARDS BAY FC 1

New Ubuntu coach Casey Prince picked up his first goal and his point since taking over from Roger Links, but it wasn’t enough to take the Cape side off the bottom of the log. Bailey had Ubuntu in front, but Muishond equalised for Richards Bay to see the sides share the spoils and stay in the relegation zone for yet another week.

BLACK LEOPARDS 0 HIGHLANDS PARK 1

A massive 3 pointer on the road for Highlands Park saw the Tembisa based side at the top of the log for the second time this season. Leopards have yet to win a match at home this season with 3 draws and this loss. The Limpopo based side are 12th on the log. Lidoda Duvha have still never beaten Highlands who have won 4 and drawn one of the five meetings.

MBOMBELA UNITED FC 0 WITBANK SPURS 2

Hard to believe the 5 – 1 scoreline in favour of Mbombela last season in this fixture as Spurs got sweet revenge with an Nyembe brace on Saturday. The loss for the Mbombela ends an impressive run of 4 wins in their last 5 outings. Spurs will be delighted with their first away win of the season. Mbombela drop to 4th while Spurs climb to 7th.

ROYAL EAGLES 0 CT ALL STARS 1

Ruzaigh Gamildien scored his 3rd goal of the season to see All Stars beat Royal Eagles for only their 2nd win in 7 meetings between the two sides. Quite a change from last season when Eagles hammered All Stars 6 – 2. The KZN side have only won 2 matches all season and while they are scoring plenty of goals, they have conceded more and are only two places above the relegation zone.

REAL KINGS 1 MTHATHA BUCKS 0

A goal from Phewa saw Kings return to winning ways after a winless run of 5 matches where the KZN side only picked up 3 points and were 14th on the log going into Round 9. The win is also the first for Kings at home this season and their first ever win against the Eastern Cape side. Bucks are struggling for consistency as they win one week, then lose or draw the next.

SUPER EAGLES 0 JOMO COSMOS 2

Successive losses without scoring sees the NFD Rookies drop to just above the relegation zone. Cosmos on the other hand picked up their first win on the road this campaign and only their 3rd clean sheet the first meeting between the two sides. Macuphu and Mkhize both scored their 2nd goals of the season, with cosmos going into the break 2 – 0 up. Despite enormous pressure being exerted by the home side, the Cosmos defence held out for the three points and a rise to 5th on the log.

UTHONGATHI FC 0 TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIHANDILA 0

The KZN NFD Rookies Uthongathi picked their 5th draw of the season, to join provincial rivals Real Kings and Richards Bay as the most drawing side in the NFD so far this season with 5 stalemates each. The draw for visiting TTM FC is their 4th in their last 3 outings and leaves the Limpopo side just inside the bottom half of the log.

STELLENBOSCH FC 0 UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA 0

A goalless clash between two of the top three sides on Sunday at the Athlone Stadium dethroned Stellenbosch FC as the logleaders of the NFD, a position they had held for the past 5 weeks. The Cape side are level on points with Highlands but 2nd due to goal difference.  After an impressive run of 4 wins in a row for Tuks in September, October has not been kind so far, with the side from Pretoria failing to win in three outings.. They are however still in the top 3 on the log and only one point behind the teams above them.
