NFD 2017/18 - WEEK 02 WRAP

CT ALL STARS 1 RICHARDS BAY FC 0

CT All Stars went joint top of the NFD standings after winning their second match of the season and are one of only two sides to go 2 for 2 this season – the other being Highlands Park. It hasn’t been a great start for the former Thanda, as they have yet to pick up a win as yet. The Cape side made it 3 wins in a row against Richards Bay FC (Thanda) after winning with identical scorelines in both 2015/16 & 2016/17 at home against the men from Richards Bay.

STELLENBOSCH FC 1 UTHONGATHI FC 1

After beating Ubuntu in a Cape derby away in week 1, Stellenbosch would not be pleased to drop points to newly promoted Uthongathi in the first home match of the season. The KZN newcomers have drawn both of their opening matches, having taken a point from their clash against Royal Eagles in Round 1.

REAL KINGS 1 WITBANK SPURS 1

Real Kings dropped into the bottom half of the table after their draw with Spurs on Saturday. Kings drew in Round 1 against Richards Bay and are yet to win this season. Spurs won in round 1, but the draw means that Spurs have still never lost to the KZN side.

ROYAL EAGLES 1 HIGHLANDS PARK 2

Highlands Park showed their intent on making their stay in the NFD a short one after beating Royal Eagles in Pietermaritzburg. After their season opening win against Cosmos, the Tembisa side are top of the table. Eagles have yet to win this season and sit in 12th on the log.

SUPER EAGLES 1 MBOMBELA UNITED FC 3

Mbombela picked up their first goals and their first points of the season when they put three past NFD rookies Super Eagles at Goble Park. Having lost 1 – 2 away to Spurs in Round 1, the Free State side are 2nd from bottom. Mbombela will be delighted to be back on track after having lost at home to Leopards in the opening round.

JOMO COSMOS 5 UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA 0

After beating Tuks 3 – 0 at home last season, Cosmos went even better on their return to the Vosloorus Stadium on Sunday. Cosmos had lost their opener to Highlands Park in Round 1, but showed serious intent against Tuks. The Pretoria side dropped points at home to Mthatha Bucks in Round 1 and are having to consolidate from the start of the season after this setback.

MTHATHA BUCKS 2 TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIHANDILA 0

It’s never easy to travel to Mthatha and pick up points and that’s exactly what newly named TTM FC (Milano) experienced on Sunday as Bucks won for the first time this season courtesy of an Erasmus brace. TTM FC have lost both of their opening matches and find themselves at the bottom of the NFD log for a second week in a row.

BLACK LEOPARDS 2 UBUNTU CT FC 2

Lidoda Duvha were very disappointed to drop points in their first home match of the season, particularly after having won away at Mbombela in Round 1. The draw meant the first point for Ubuntu this season with the former FC CT down on 11th on the log. Leopards have won 5 out the 7 meetings against FC CT, and are unbeaten at home against the Cape side.
