HIGHLANDS PARK 1 JOMO COSMOS 0

The Lions of the North made a winning to start to their return to the NFD after beating Cosmos in Tembisa. After scoring 5 PSL goals and 1 cup goal in the top flight last season Mothobi Mvala was the man to get the goal for Highlands who not only beat Cosmos for the 1st time, but scored their first ever goal against them..

MBOMBELA UNITED FC 0 BLACK LEOPARDS 1

It’s never easy to travel to Kanyamazane and come away with three points, but that is exactly what Black Leopards were able to do. Nange snatched the only goal of the match for Lidoda Duvha who start the campaign on a positive note signaling their intent as early challenges for the NFD title. Leopards have still never lost away to Mbombela.  

UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA 1 MTHATHA BUCKS 1

Tuks and Bucks played out to a stalemate in Pretoria in Round 1 to leave both sides in midtable. Erasmus scored from the penalty spot to give the visitors the lead seven minutes after halftime, but Reed snatched the equaliser for the student side halfway through the second half. The result is the 3rd draw between the two teams who have never beaten each other.  

UTHONGATHI FC 1 ROYAL EAGLES 1

The first derby of the season provided the first goal and the first point for newly promoted Uthongathi FC. The winners of the ABC Motsepe League title took the lead halfway through the second half when Cele scored an own goal for the visitors. Eagles under new coach Allan Freese never gave up and got out of jail two minutes into 2nd half stoppage time with a Mashau equaliser.

WITBANK SPURS 2 SUPER EAGLES 1

Spurs went joint top of the NFD standings when they beat newly promoted Super Eagles. Goals for the home side came early in each half, with Nyembe scoring just 10 minutes into the match and Matahbela scoring the second 3 mintues after halftime. Eagles pulled one back through Mokoena in a show of character, but weren’t able to find the equaliser.  

RICHARDS BAY FC 1 REAL KINGS FC 1

The second KZN derby of the Round 1 saw newly named Richards Bay (former Thanda) and Real Kings share the spoils in Richards Bay. The visitors, playing in the NFD for just their second season, took the lead on the stroke of halftime through regular contributor Miya. However the home side were not going down without a fight and grabbed a point with a Sentsho goal twenty minutes into the second half.

TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIHANDILA vs CT ALL STARS

Former Milano now TTM FC put up a good challenge to All Stars, but lost their opening encounter of the season due to a goal halfway through the first half by Nathan Gertse. After struggling for much of last season, the Cape side have signaled their intent for better things this time around.  

UBUNTU CT FC vs STELLENBOSCH FC

The Cape derby ended in victory for the visitors as newly named Ubuntu lost their opener on Monday afternoon. Monene scored the first goal of the match halfway through the first half for the visitors to lead at halftime. Ubuntu grabbed an equalizer 11 minutes after the break when Chivaviro found the net, but Ubuntu were denied a share of the spoils by a 91st minute winner scored by Uiseb as Stellenbosch FC went to the top of the standings after Round 1.
